Accessibility statement

Target standard

This website targets WCAG 2.2 Level AA. We regard that as an operating requirement rather than an aspiration, and the build fails if certain parts of it regress.

What is built in

• Full keyboard operability, including the navigation, menus and every form control
• A visible focus indicator on every interactive element, using a per-surface colour so it always clears a 3:1 contrast ratio against whatever it sits on
• A skip link to the main content as the first focusable element
• Semantic landmarks and a single, ordered heading hierarchy per page
• Every form control has a real label; errors are announced and linked programmatically
• Colour is never the only carrier of meaning — statuses, required fields and capability stages are all conveyed in text
• Text and background pairs are verified numerically against WCAG thresholds by an automated test that fails the build if any pair drops below its minimum
• Motion respects prefers-reduced-motion; nothing is hidden until animated, and the site is fully readable with JavaScript unavailable
• Interactive targets meet the 24px minimum; primary controls are 44px
• Page zoom to 500% is not blocked, and the layout reflows without horizontal scrolling
• Body text never renders below 16px

How it was tested

• Automated accessibility scanning with axe-core across key page templates, run in continuous integration
• Keyboard-only traversal of the navigation, mobile menu and assessment form
• Programmatic contrast verification of every semantic colour pair in the design system
• Reduced-motion and JavaScript-disabled rendering checks

Known limitations

We would rather list these than imply they do not exist:

• Screen-reader testing has been automated, not manual. Automated tooling catches a meaningful share of issues but not all of them. Testing with JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver by people who use them daily is outstanding.
• No testing with users with disabilities has been conducted. Automated conformance is not the same as being usable.
• The site plan and scene illustrations are decorative and carry text alternatives describing what they depict, but complex diagrams are inherently harder to convey in text and the descriptions may not suit every reader.
• Documents supplied outside this website (proposals, specifications, reports) are not yet produced to a verified accessible-PDF standard.
